State employees. Employees of the government of Missouri are entitled to the holidays noted as paid days off. In addition, the governor may decree the Friday after Thanksgiving as a paid day off for state employees.
Private employers. Private employers are not required by state law to provide any holidays as paid (or unpaid) days off. The vast majority of Missouri employers observe at least 6 paid holidays. Also, no Missouri law requires that employers:
• Pay premium pay to employees who work on holidays
• Pay employees for unworked hours on holidays
• Count unworked hours on holidays as “hours worked” when computing overtime
However, many Missouri employers do provide one or more of these benefits.
