State employees. Government offices close on these holidays, and state employees are entitled to them as paid days off. If any state employees are required to work on a particular holiday, they are entitled to a paid day off from work on some alternative date, or may be paid in lieu thereof (OK Stat. Tit. 25 Sec. 82.1).
Private employers. Private employers are not required by state law to provide any holidays as paid (or unpaid) days off; however, the majority of Oklahoma employers observe at least six paid holidays. No Oklahoma law requires that employers:
• Pay premium pay to employees who work on holidays.
• Pay employees for unworked hours on holidays.
• Count unworked hours on holidays as “hours worked” when computing overtime.
Nevertheless, many Oklahoma employers do observe some or all of these practices.
