Arkansas Paychecks: What you need to know

Wages include all amounts due for labor or services performed by an employee for which the employee has a reasonable expectation of payment. Wages may be fixed or determined by time, job, piecework, commission, or any other method. Wages include, but are not limited to, commissions, bonuses, cash value of all compensation paid in any medium other than cash and tips, and other amounts promised under an employer's policy or practice of making such payments.

Employers must pay wages at least semimonthly. Any employer that violates this law is guilty of a misdemeanor and may face a fine of up to $500 for each offense. Managers and others exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), who earn more than $25,000 per year, may be paid monthly if employed by businesses grossing $500,000 or more (AR Stat. Sec. 11-4-401).
Wages may be paid with cash, check, negotiable draft check, or a draft that can be cashed without charge at a bank or elsewhere, or by electronic deposit (AR Stat. Sec. 11-4-203). Employers, however, may not require employees to have their checks electronically deposited into a bank account. Employees have the right to refuse to use direct deposit and may do so by giving the employer a written and signed letter that says he or she does not want direct deposit.
State employees/direct deposit. As a condition of employment, a person hired or appointed to a position in any agency in state government on or after the August 12, 2005, may be required to accept payment of salary or wages by direct electronic deposit.
