Vermont Government Contractors: What you need to know

The Vermont Fair Employment Practices Act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, place of birth, age, qualified disability, or HIV status (VT Stat. Tit. 21 Sec. 495et seq.).

Disclosure of wages. Another provision prohibits employers from requiring an employee to promise not to reveal the amount of his or her salary or to discipline, discharge, or discriminate against an employee who does reveal the amount of salary he or she is earning (VT Stat. Tit. 21 Sec. 495).
The Act requires all public works contracts and subcontracts with the state to include a statement that the contractors and subcontractors must comply with the provisions of the Act (VT Stat. Tit. 21 Sec. 495a).
