Kansas Notices (Posting): What you need to know

Kansas requires that employers post a number of notices informing workers of their rights and obligations under various employment laws. The notices must be placed conspicuously enough to be seen easily by employees as they enter or exit the workplace. Most of these mandatory posters are available online from the Kansas Department of Labor at www.dol.ks.gov.

Child labor. Employers that employ workers under the age of 16 must post (near the main entrance of the building) a notice of the maximum hours of work minors under the age of 16 may work each day, their daily starting and quitting times, and mealtimes. The form for the notice will be furnished by the state labor commissioner (KS Stat. Sec. 38-605). The poster is available online from the Kansas Department of Labor.
Discrimination. A notice setting forth provisions of the Kansas Act Against Discrimination and the Kansas Age Discrimination in Employment Act must be posted (KS Stat. Sec. 44-1012; KS Admin. Regs. Sec. 21-44-3). The required poster is available online from the Kansas Human Rights Commission at www.khrc.net.
Smoking. Signs must be conspicuously posted in public places stating that smoking is prohibited by state law and that it is allowed only in designated areas (KS Stat. Sec. 21-4009 et seq.). Several cities and municipalities in the state have passed ordinances banning smoking in public places and workplaces and requiring the posting of No Smoking signs.
Unemployment. A notice of unemployment insurance coverage, claim filing procedures, and other rules and regulations must be posted (KS Stat. Sec. 44-709). The poster is available online from the Kansas Department of Labor.
