Rules. To date, the federal government's involvement in renewable energy programs has been limited to voluntary programs and providing financial incentives for renewable energy generation. However, New York state legislation has established a renewable energy portfolio standard and energy efficiency portfolio standards.

The practice of hydraulic fracturing has been officially banned in the state.

Administration and enforcement. The NYSERDA and PSC administer and enforce the renewable energy and energy conservation requirements in Washington.
