Comparison: State vs. Federal
• Rules. Mississippi requires all state and local agencies to consider environmental impacts along with social and economic factors in all agency decision making. If the agency determines an action will have a potentially significant environmental impact, an environmental impact statement (EIS) is required. Mississippi follows the federal EIS requirements. For more information, see the national section ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT.
• Administration and enforcement. The DEQ or the appropriate regulatory agency administers and enforces EIS requirements for its respective agency.
