Rules. West Virginia follows the federal hazardous materials transportation requirements for the import and export of chemicals. Export licenses may be required for the export of controlled chemicals. See the national sections HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRANSPORTERS and IMPORTS AND EXPORTS OF CHEMICALS for a summary of federal requirements. In addition, a security plan may be required by hazardous materials transporters. The plan must include an assessment of possible transportation security risks for hazmat shipments. Internationally, a number of countries have developed or are developing laws with restrictions on the import of hazardous substances and electronic equipment that contain certain hazardous chemicals. See the national sections IMPORTS AND EXPORTS OF CHEMICALS and EXPORTS AND IMPORTS OF HAZARDOUS WASTE for more information concerning these international directives. In addition, a growing number of states regulate the labeling of products containing certain hazardous chemicals being imported into their states.
