Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Arizona follows the federal requirements dealing with underground storage tanks (USTs) containing petroleum products. However, the state has specific requirements for notification, secondary containment, delivery prohibition, release reporting, corrective action, and closure. UST contractors must be licensed, UST operators must be trained, and engineers and geologists must be certified. Arizona also imposes annual tank fees.
