Comparison: State vs. Federal

• Rules. Louisiana was granted state program approval in 1992. Louisiana's UST rules are similar to the federal rules. The state has a UST trust fund to cover releases from USTs, a certification requirement for installers, and its own fee system.

Louisiana has also adopted the federal delivery prohibition under the federal UST Compliance Act (USTCA). In addition, DEQ has adopted secondary containment requirements that meet or exceed USTCA requirements. DEQ has adopted rules that require, after December 20, 2008, UST ...
