Comparison: State vs. Federal

• Rules. Virginia's UST rules are more stringent than the federal regulations. In addition, Virginia has its own UST permitting and inspection requirements and requires permits for corrective action plans.

DEQ has adopted the federal delivery prohibition, secondary containment, and UST operator training provisions under the federal Energy Policy Act of 2005, Title XV, Subtitle B, known as the UST Compliance Act (USTCA).
