Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Alabama follows the federal rules for containment buildings with only one slight variation on a federal requirement in connection with recordkeeping. In addition, owners and operators of containment buildings must comply with the hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facility (TSDF) permit application requirements and pay several state permit and facility fees. The state's more-stringent permit standards and fees are reviewed in the state section TSDF PERMITS.

Administration and enforcement. ADEM's Governmental Hazardous Waste Branch administers and enforces the containment building rules in Alabama.
