• Rules. New Jersey's hazardous waste management rules include the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) rules and several more stringent state requirements. The state's rules apply to hazardous waste generators, transporters, owners and operators of hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs), handlers of universal wastes, and handlers of used oil.
• Administration and enforcement. DEP has received RCRA authorization from EPA. RCRA authorization allows DEP's Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Program to administer and enforce the state's hazardous waste management rules.
