Comparison: State vs. Federal
• Rules. Arizona has adopted the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) federal listed waste regulations. See the national section LISTED WASTES to review the federal listing criteria. See the national sections HAZWASTE DETERMINATION (CLASSIFICATION) and CHARACTERISTIC WASTE for additional information on hazardous waste identification and classification.
Arizona has adopted the federal delisting rules by reference. Generators may request a specific waste at a specific facility be excluded from hazardous waste management. EPA encourages that ADEQ be contacted before filing a petition with EPA Region 9. For specific requirements to follow when filing a petition, see the national section DELISTING PETITIONS.
• Administration and enforcement. ADEQ administers and enforces the rules for listed wastes in Arizona.
