Comparison: State vs. Federal
• Rules. Louisiana has adopted the federal listed hazardous wastes. The state refers to listed hazardous wastes as Category I hazardous wastes. Category I hazardous wastes are hazardous wastes from nonspecific and specific sources (F and K wastes), acute hazardous waste (P wastes), and toxic wastes (U wastes) (LAC 33:V.4901). For further information, see the national section LISTED WASTES. Category II hazardous wastes consist of wastes that are ignitable, corrosive, reactive, or toxic (LAC 33:V.4903). See the state section CHARACTERISTIC WASTE for additional information.
• Administration and enforcement. DEQ's Office of Environmental Compliance administers and enforces the hazardous waste identification rules in Louisiana.
