Rules. Mississippi incorporates by reference the federal regulations that classify wastes as hazardous if they have been placed on hazardous waste lists by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The federal requirements for listed hazardous wastes are discussed in the national sections HAZWASTE DETERMINATION (CLASSIFICATION) and LISTED WASTES.

Mississippi has received EPA authorization to administer the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) rules, including the authority to delist RCRA wastes. See the state section DELISTING PETITIONS for more information.

Administration and enforcement. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality's (MDEQ) Office of Pollution Control administers and enforces the requirements for listed hazardous waste in Mississippi.
