Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Alabama's waste management rules include many of the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act's (RCRA) rules as well as stricter state requirements for hazardous and solid (nonhazardous) waste management and underground storage tanks (USTs). Alabama has received RCRA authorization from the EPA. RCRA authorization allows the ADEM to administer and enforce the state's hazardous waste, solid (nonhazardous) waste, and UST management programs.
