Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Montana adopts the federal requirements for recycling of hazardous wastes. For details, see the national section RECYCLING. Retailers and wholesalers of motor oil are required to post the location of the nearest waste oil recycling collection center within 25 miles. In addition to following some of the federal programs, the state has developed its own programs to address pollution prevention and recycling under authority of the Montana Integrated Waste Management Act. For more information, see the state section POLLUTION PREVENTION.
