Rules. The federal used oil management standards are in effect in Iowa. In addition, Iowa has additional state rules in connection with the collection, recycling, and reuse of used oil and used oil filters (UOFs), including those concerning signage requirements.

Administration and enforcement. EPA's Region 7 office enforces the federal used oil management rules in Iowa because the state has not had EPA authorization to implement its own hazardous waste management program since 1985 and has no plans to apply for EPA authorization in the near future.
