Missouri Counseling Services/ EAPs: What you need to know

Human resources generalists, as well as employee assistance program (EAP) counselors, managers, and directors can keep abreast of the issues related to EAPs by joining a chapter of the EAPA. These groups also provide guidance to employers that have not yet set up employee assistance programs in their own companies.

There is currently one local chapter of the EAPA in Missouri. Contact information (phone and e-mail) for the chapter’s officers is available on the EAPA website at http://www.eapa.info. The state of Missouri offers an EAP for its employees. The EAP entitles an employee and any member of the employee’s household six counseling sessions per episode per calendar year. The EAP is designed to give employees access to short-term mental health benefits. The EAP may be utilized by an employee experiencing personal areas of concern such as health, marital, family, or financial problems; substance abuse, legal issues, stress, grief and loss issues; and emotional disturbances.
