Rhode Island Executive Exemption: What you need to know

Rhode Island law exempts anyone employed in a bona fide executive, administrative, or professional capacity earning a salary of at least $200 per week from the overtime provisions of Rhode Island's Minimum Wage Law (RI Gen. Laws Sec. 28-12-4.3). The law specifically incorporates the definitions of these terms that are in the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. When choosing to apply either state or federal law, employers must apply the law that is most beneficial to the employee.There is additional information on other employees who are exempt from Rhode Island's minimum wage and overtime requirements.
