Missouri Facilities: What you need to know

Workplace facilities are mostly regulated by standards established under the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act). The federal scheme permits individual states to devise and enforce their own laws and regulations, but only with federal approval, and only if the applicable state plan requirements are as stringent as the corresponding federal standards. Missouri does not have its own federally approved work safety and health plan, and so the federal OSH Act applies. Additional information on the federal standards is available.

Missouri law requires every employer in the state to adopt and provide devices, means, and methods to protect employees from industrial or occupational illness and disease (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 292.300).
Overcrowding. If a workplace is so overcrowded as to endanger health or safety, the Director of the Division of Industrial Inspection is authorized to issue a corrective order (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 292.140).
Ventilation. Workplaces must be ventilated so as to clean inside air. The Director of Labor may order fans and other dust collection instruments installed as well (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 292.110, Sec. 292.130, Sec. 292.390).
Seats. Comfortable seats must be provided for female employee use when their duties don't require them to be on their feet (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 292.170).
Doors. Main doors, both inside and outside, must open outward and are not to be locked during working hours (MO Rev. Stat. Sec. 292.070).
Stairways. Stairways used in connection with any work connected with a building more than two stories must be kept lighted at all times and have a handrail running the entire length. An outside ladder may not be used as a stairway (MO Rev. Stat. ...
