Louisiana Notices (Posting): What you need to know

Louisiana requires that employers post several notices informing employees of their rights and obligations under various employment laws. The notices must be placed conspicuously enough to be easily seen by employees entering and exiting the workplace. Workplace posters required by Louisiana law are available online from the state Department of Labor (DOL) at the following link: http://www.laworks.net.

Child labor. All employers of minors must post a summary of the Louisiana child labor laws and a list of the occupations prohibited to minors (LA Rev. Stat. Sec. 23:217).

Discrimination. All employers must post notices about discrimination on the basis of sickle-cell trait, genetic information and privacy, and age discrimination (LA Rev. Stat. Sec. 23:314, Sec. 23:369, Sec. 23:354).

Earned income credit. Employers must notify new employees whose anticipated wages are below annual minimum income limits (depending on family size) that they may be eligible for the federal earned income tax credit and may either apply for the credit on their tax returns or receive the credit in advance payments during the year. Employers must post a notice of the earned income tax credit as provided by the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LA Rev. Stat. Sec. 23:1018.2).
