Kentucky Safety and Health: What you need to know

Workplace health and safety is governed by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act), unless a state's own safety and health act is at least as stringent as the federal Act and has been approved by OSHA. Kentucky does have such a state law, the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Act (Kentucky OSH Act). Therefore, it is a “state plan” state, with authority to administer and enforce its own state job safety and health laws.

The Kentucky OSH Act has adopted the standards of the federal OSH Act in their entirety and has also developed and adopted several additional standards.
