Alabama Emergency Preparedness: What you need to know

Emergency preparation. Information about preparation for all types of emergencies is available from the Alabama Emergency Management Agency's (EMA) preparedness site at http://ema.alabama.gov or call 205-280-2200.

Disasters. EMA also has up-to-date information on weather, declarations of disaster, calls for evacuation, and other situations on the state's disaster website at http://disaster.ema.alabama.gov.

Power outages. Information about power outages should be directed to the Alabama Power Company Power Outage hotline at 800-888-2726 or Alabama Power Reservoir Information hotline at 800-525-3711. Alabama Rural Electric Cooperatives can be contacted at 800-410-2732.

The Alabama Department of Transportation has information on emergency evacuation routes and contraflow (lane-reversal plans for I-65 during evacuations for hurricanes or flooding) at http://aldotapps.dot.state.al.us/Hurricane%20C all%20Center/emergency_information.htmor phone the emergency call center at 888-588-2848.

Hurricane evacuation. Information on coastal evacuation routes and contraflow (lane-reversal) plans for I-65 during evacuations for hurricanes or flooding is available at http://aldotapps.dot.state.al.us/mcrweb/Hurricane Information/hurricane_information.htm.

The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) and its Center for Emergency Preparedness coordinate information and services in the event of threats to public health (contagious disease) and man-made health emergencies (oil spills, hazardous substance release, and terrorist acts).

Influenza

ADPH has a website addressing pandemic flu that also provides specific information for employers at http://www.adph.org/INFLUENZA.
