California has adopted its own rules for material handling equipment, such as powered industrial trucks (including forklifts), cranes, derricks, and other hoisting equipment, that are stricter than federal rules. The state standards must be at least as strict as the federal standards; otherwise, the federal standards apply.
See the state Cranes and Slings topic for more information about such equipment.
See the state Forklifts topic for more information about forklifts and other powered industrial trucks.
The California Department of Industrial Relations/Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) administers and enforces workplace safety and health rules for private and public sector workplaces in the state.
