Alabama MSDS : What you need to know

· Rules. Alabama follows the chemical reporting requirements under the federal EPCRA law. See the national section MSDS for information on the federal requirements and a sample material safety data sheet (MSDS).

Alabama is not a “state plan” state; that is, it does not have a federally approved occupational safety and health regulatory program. Consequently, the federal OSH Act governs MSDS requirements in the private sector workplace. There is no state law that governs workplace safety in the public sector (state and local agencies, school systems). MSDSs must be filed as directed by OSHA.

· Administration and enforcement. OSHA administers and enforces workplace safety and health-related MSDS requirements in Alabama. ADEM, AEMA, and EPA share administration and enforcement of the community right-to-know rules, including related MSDS requirements, in Alabama. MSDSs must be submitted to ADEM, LEPCs, and the local fire department upon request.
