North Carolina Illness and Injuries: What you need to know

North Carolina has adopted by reference the federal rules for illness and injury recordkeeping and the maintenance of employee medical records in general industry workplaces (13 NCAC 7A.0301 and 13 NCAC 7F.0101).

Report of fatality or multiple hospitalizations. The state has adopted the federal rules that require employers to report fatalities or the hospitalization of three or more employees to the nearest state workplace safety and health regulatory office within 8 hours of either the occurrence or the time it became known to any agent of the employer. Employers should call 919-779-8560 or 800-625-2267 during working hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) to report fatalities and/or hospitalizations.

The North Carolina Department of Labor/Occupational Safety and Health Division administers the safety and health rules for private and public sector workplaces in the state.
