Virginia Illness and Injuries: What you need to know

Virginia has adopted the federal recordkeeping requirements for work-related illness and injury reports and for the maintenance of and access to employee medical records by reference (16 VAC 25-85-1904 and 16 VAC 25-90-1910).

Reporting fatalities and multiple hospitalizations. The state fatality and injury reporting requirements mirror federal rules (VA Code 40.1-51.1), employers must report workplace fatalities and the hospitalization of 3 or more workers per incident to the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry/Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH).

The VOSH program administers safety and health rules in private and public sector workplaces.
