Washington’s work-related injury and illness recordkeeping requirements mirror federal rules (WAC 296-27-00101 to 296-27-05101). State rules mirror federal rules for the maintenance of employee medical records in general industry workplaces (WAC 296-802-100 to 296-802-900). The Washington Department of Labor and Industries' (L&I) Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) administers and enforces workplace safety and health rules.

Accident report hotline. All employers in Washington covered by workplace safety and health rules must report a fatality, probable death, or hospitalization incident that involves any employee within 8 hours of the incident by calling L&I, or the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at 800-321-6742.
