Wyoming OSHA : What you need to know
Comparison: State vs. Federal
· Rules. . Wyoming is a “state-plan” state, which means it has its own federally approved occupational safety and health regulatory program. State law governs occupational safety and health in both public and private sector workplaces except for federal facilities, domestic employment, and mines. The state has adopted the federal safety and health standards by reference. See the state section HAZARD COMMUNICATION STANDARD for more information about worker right to know. · Administration and enforcement. The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (WDWS) administers and enforces safety and health requirements in private and public sector workplaces, including the safety plan requirements.
ORGANIZATION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
WDWS protects workers from occupational hazards by regulating employers through its occupational safety and health rules. WDWS compliance officers perform inspections on the basis of complaints and targeted programs and issue monetary citations for serious violations of standards.
An employer may challenge the validity of citations or penalties through the Office of Administrative Hearings. COVERED EMPLOYERS
Private and Public Sector
Any employer that has one or more employees, including the state and all of its political subdivisions, is covered under state workplace safety and health rules. The law covers workplaces in general industry, construction, and agricultural sectors.
