Robert (Bob) L. Brady, Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Robert (Bob) L. Brady, Founder and Chief Executive Officer Bob is the founder and chief executive for BLR®, which he started in 1977 with a mission to provide executives and decision makers with reliable, easy-to-understand analysis of the ever-increasing and complex state and federal laws. He was the managing editor of the University of Notre Dame Observer. After college, Bob worked for the Bureau of Business Practice and Institute for Management, both newsletter publishers. He founded BLR during his final year of law school at the University of Connecticut. Bob is a board member and treasurer of the Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA) and is president of the board of the Valley Shore YMCA.

Brian E. Gurnham, Chief Operating Officer

Brian Gurnham, Chief Operating Officer Brian brings over 30 years of experience in a variety of capacities in the publishing industry to BLR®.  Brian began his career working in the Environmental industry as project manager for a large environmental consulting firm. He began his publishing experience in the early ‘80s when he developed an application that produced company-specific regulatory compliance handbooks on demand. The idea evolved to become one of the first titles available on CD-ROM, ENFLEX®, published by Environmental Resources Management (ERM). The company is now a part of Thomson. Brian also spent 4 years as president of KBS Systems, LLC, an integrated software and content publisher, prior to joining BLR in 2000 as vice president of New Product Development, where his principal responsibility was the migration of the company’s core print assets to Web-based subscription products. In December, 2004 he was named chief operating officer of BLR and oversees all aspects of the company’s business. Mr. Gurnham has a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University.

J. Michael (Mike) Brady, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Operations

Mike Brady, Chief Financial Officer Mike Brady has been the chief financial officer and vice president of Operations at BLR since 2005.  He is responsible for the financial areas of the company as well as the Human Resources and Warehousing and Distribution functions.  Previously, Mike was a partner with Deloitte & Touche and was in charge of the Enterprise Risk Services Practice of the Pittsburgh office of Deloitte & Touche. Mike also served for a number of years as the chief financial officer of Minnotte Corporation. Mike has served on the boards of the Pittsburgh YMCA, the National Association of Accountants, and the Valley Brook Country Club. Mike is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his BA from Kenyon College and his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.

Margaret (Peggy) A. Carter-Ward, Vice President, Editor in Chief

Margaret (Peggy) A. Carter-Ward, Editor in Chief Peggy has been vice president and editor in chief at BLR since 2001. Prior to joining BLR, Ms. Carter-Ward was vice president of Content Development with NETSCAN iPublishing, an Internet publisher of state regulatory and legislative information with daily alerts to lobbyists and compliance professionals. Prior to that, Ms. Carter-Ward was director of operations at the ENFLEX regulatory service, a CD and Internet-based EHS compliance information service. Ms. Carter-Ward also worked for 3 years in the management consulting department of Environmental Resources Management Inc., helping several Fortune 100 companies with their U.S. and global environmental compliance initiatives. Ms. Carter-Ward is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), and has been a keynote speaker at an environmental benchmarking conference. She has also been a judge for several years for the AZBEE editorial awards and Web awards. She is a Certified Content Rights Manager. Ms. Carter-Ward obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Philosophy from Yale University.

Mathew (Matt) Humphrey, Vice President, New Markets, and President, ERI  

Mathew (Matt) Humphrey, Vice President, New Markets, and President, ERI Matt is an entrepreneurial publishing executive with editorial, marketing and new product development experience. At BLR, Matt oversees the Employer Resource Institute, a division that provides award-winning compliance help to California employers through membership websites, events, newsletters, and reports. He runs BLR's cross-departmental event team, managing virtual events such as audio conferences and webinars and annual conferences such as the BLR National Employment Law Update and the California Employment Law Update. Previously, Matt was director of newsletter marketing at Paperloop, now RISI, the leading provider of pricing and economic data to the pulp, paper, and forest products industry. He began his career on the editorial side of the content business, and served as editor of the San Francisco Review of Books. He received his BA in English/World Literature from UCLA and his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Kathleen (Kathy) Greenler Sexton, Chief Marketing Officer  

Kathleen (Kathy) Greenler Sexton, Chief Marketing Officer Kathy is a seasoned marketing and media executive in both the consumer and business-to-business segments and brings a deep understanding of subscription, ecommerce, and advertising revenue models to her role at BLR®. As chief marketing officer for BLR, Kathy is responsible for product management, promotion, business development, database management, online media, and customer operations. Kathy has over 20 years of media and publishing experience with expertise in aggregation, original publishing, and packaging of content across multiple platforms. She started her career in broadcast television, and she launched and ran marketing for one of the then-largest search engines on the Web, AltaVista. Kathy has also general managed or marketed industry-leading online companies focused on news, small business information, and general research including: Individual.com, Office.com and HighBeam Research. She has a BA in communications from Boston College. Kathy is on the board of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) Content Division.
