Governor Enacts Sweeping Pension Reforms July 02, 2009 -- On June 16, Governor Deval Patrick signed Chapter 21 of the Acts of 2009, making landmark reforms to the state’s pension system. Governor Patrick called the legislation a “critical step to eliminate the abuses and gamesmanship that for too long have threatened the system’s credibility and ultimate sustainability for all public workers.” The changes took effect July 1, 2009 and apply to current as well as future employees and elected officials. |
