Delaware Holidays: What you need to know

Delaware observes the following as official holidays on which state offices and schools are closed:

January 1 New Year's Day
3rd Monday in January Martin Luther King Jr. Day
3rd Monday in February Presidents' Day
Good Friday
Last Monday in May Memorial Day
July 4 Independence Day
1st Monday in September Labor Day
2nd Monday in October Columbus Day
1st Tuesday in November Election Day
November 11 Veterans Day
4th Thursday and Friday in November Thanksgiving
December 25 Christmas Day
Saturdays are also recognized as legal holidays in Delaware. In Sussex County, Return Day, which is the second day after Election Day, is also a legal holiday beginning after noon.
If a holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on the preceding Friday (DE Code Tit. 1 Sec. 501, et al.).
There is nothing in Delaware law that requires private employers to provide paid or unpaid holidays to their employees.
