The workweek on all state, county, and municipal projects is 40 hours. Any hours over 40 must be compensated at 11/2 times the regular rate (UT Code Sec. 34-30-8). Any employer in violation of this law is guilty of a misdemeanor (UT Code Sec. 34-30-9).
An employer may ask the Utah Industrial Commission to certify that a longer period would not be illegal, and would not violate employees' health, safety, and welfare, as long as both parties to the issue have an opportunity to be heard.
