Rhode Island Notices (Posting): What you need to know

Rhode Island requires that employers post several notices in the workplace informing employees of their rights and obligations under various employment laws. The notices must be placed conspicuously and in enough places to be seen easily by employees as they enter or exit the workplace and, in some cases, where they can be seen by applicants for employment as well.

Child labor. A printed copy of the child labor law must be posted in every workroom where minors are employed (RI Gen. Laws Sec. 28-3-19). In addition, employers must post a notice with the hours worked each day by minor employees, including their start and end times each day and the minimum rates of pay, including hourly rates, piece rates, or both (RI Gen. Laws. Sec. 28-3-11 and Sec. 28-3-12).
Discrimination. Public employers and private employers with four or more employees must post a summary of the Fair Employment Practices Act in the workplace. A sample notice titled "Discrimination is Illegal" is available from the Department of Labor and Training at http://www.dlt.ri.gov
This sample poster also provides notice of the state's "ban the box" law, which prohibits employers from inquiring about job applicants' criminal history on job applications.
Employers are required to post a notice informing employees of the sexual harassment law (RI Gen. Laws Sec. 28-5-37).
Employers are required to post the “Notice of Right to Be Free From Discrimination Because of Childbirth, Pregnancy, and Related Conditions” (RI Gen. Laws Sec. 28-5-6). This notice is available at http://www.dlt.ri.gov
