Ohio Records: What you need to know

Employers should keep in mind that the time period for retaining records set forth in the various statutes are minimums. Since these records are critical to the employer if its compliance with federal or state law is questioned or if it must defend itself against employment-related litigation, employers may want to retain employment-related records for longer periods. Moreover, the penalties for not keeping required records may be severe.
Covered employers. All employers are subject to these recordkeeping requirements.
Required. Employees must keep records of chosen and rejected apprentices that allow identification of gender and race. Records must include a summary of the person's qualifications, basis for evaluation and selection, interview notes and documents, application form, and information detailing the operation of the apprenticeship program, including, but not limited to, job assignment, promotion, demotion, layoff or termination, rates of pay, or other forms of compensation or conditions of work, hours (including hours of work and, separately, hours of training provided).
