Discrimination. The South Carolina Human Affairs Law prohibits employers from refusing to hire an applicant based on race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, or disability (S.C. Code § 1-13-10 et seq.). The law applies to employers with 15 or more employees.
Veterans’ preference. It is not an unlawful employment practice for a private employer to give preference in employment to a veteran (S.C. Code § §1-13-80(13)). In public employment, veterans receive preference in hiring whenever practicable (S.C. Code § 1-1-550).
