• Rules. Iowa requires all chemical manufacturers or importers to assess the hazards of chemicals that they produce or import and to provide information to their employees about the hazardous chemicals to which they are exposed, by means of a hazard communication program. Iowa has adopted the federal hazardous materials transportation requirements for the import and export of chemicals. Export licenses may be required for the export of controlled chemicals. See the national sections HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRANSPORTERS and IMPORTS AND EXPORTS OF CHEMICALS for a summary of federal requirements. In addition, a security plan may be required by hazardous materials transporters. The plan must include an assessment of possible transportation security risks for hazmat shipments.
