Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Rhode Island's rules for pesticides mirror federal regulations, predominately the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act for pesticide management and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) for disposal of pesticides that are hazardous wastes, with some additional state licensing, certification, and fee requirements. Rhode Island also has additional rules for state limited-use pesticides. See the national sections HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL and PESTICIDES for further guidance.

Administration and enforcement. DEM administers and enforces the rules covering pesticide applicators, sale, use, storage, and disposal.
