Comparison: State vs. Federal

· Rules. The federal OSH Act governs workplace safety and health in the private sector (private businesses and nonprofit organizations). Mississippi does not have a worker right-to-know law in place for public sector (state and local agencies and operations) workplaces. For comprehensive information on worker right-to-know, see the national section HAZARD COMMUNICATION STANDARD.

· Administration and enforcement. OSHA administers and enforces the workplace safety and health rules, including the Hazard Communication Standard, in the private sector.
