Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Arizona adopts by reference the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule, effective in Arizona as of March 1, 2019, which includes standards that allow generators to accumulate hazardous waste on-site without a permit for specific periods of time. See the national section ACCUMULATION TIME to review the specific time periods applicable to each type of generator. See the state section HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE for more specific information on how generators may accumulate hazardous waste on-site without a permit.

Administration and enforcement. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) administers and enforces the generator accumulation time rules in Arizona.
