Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. The federal accumulation time rules for generators storing hazardous waste on-site without a permit are in effect in Iowa. See the national section ACCUMULATION TIME to review the specific time periods applicable to each type of generator. For generator on-site hazardous waste storage requirements, see the national section HAZARDOUS WASTE STORAGE.

Administration and enforcement. EPA's Region 7 office enforces the accumulation time rules in Iowa. In fact, EPA enforces all of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act hazardous waste management requirements because the state has not had EPA implementation authorization since 1985 and has no plans to apply for it in the near future.
