Comparison: State vs. Federal
• Rules. Pennsylvania incorporates by reference the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule (New Rule), effective on the federal level and in Pennsylvania as of May 30, 2017. The federal accumulation time rules allow generators to accumulate hazardous waste on-site without a permit for specific periods of time. See the national section ACCUMULATION TIME to review the specific time periods applicable to each type of generator.
• Administration and enforcement. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Bureau of Waste Management administers and enforces Pennsylvania's accumulation time requirements for generators of hazardous waste.
