Comparison: State vs. Federal
• Rules. Mississippi adopts by reference the federal regulations for identifying hazardous waste by the characteristics of ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, and toxicity. The federal characteristic waste requirements are described in the national section CHARACTERISTIC WASTE. See the state sections HAZWASTE DETERMINATION (CLASSIFICATION) and LISTED WASTES for additional guidance.
• Administration and enforcement. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality's (MDEQ) Office of Pollution Control administers the state's regulations for identifying characteristic waste.
