Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Missouri incorporates by reference the federal closure and post-closure general rules for hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs). In addition to complying with the general closure and post-closure standards, owners or operators of the various types of TSDFs must meet closure and post-closure standards specific to their facility types. Missouri follows the federal rules specific to facilities using containers, drip pads, hazardous waste storage tanks, incinerators, hazardous waste landfills, land treatment, miscellaneous units, surface impoundments, thermal treatment, and waste piles. There are no additional state provisions.

Administration and enforcement. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources' (DNR) Division of Environmental Quality administers and enforces the TSDF closure and post-closure requirements in Missouri.
