Comparison: State vs. Federal
• Rules. Indiana has adopted by reference the federal rules for hazardous waste containers, including the empty container requirements and the organic air emissions standards. In addition, owners and operators of hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs) that use containers for hazardous waste must comply with additional permit application requirements and pay several state permit and facility fees.
• Administration and enforcement. IDEM's Compliance and Response Branch administers and enforces the hazardous waste container rules in Indiana.
PERMITS AND FEES
Indiana's permit requirements for hazardous waste containers include the federal standards plus the state's additional rules requiring a permit application fee, an annual facility operating fee, additional permit application information, and local facility siting requirements. See the state section TSDF PERMITS to review these requirements and fees.
