Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Virginia adopts by reference the federal hazardous waste container requirements, including the federal empty container standards and the organic air emission standards. In addition, owners and operators of hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs) that use containers must comply with the state's permit certification requirements and pay state permit application and permit certification fees. Refer to the state section TSDF PERMITS for information on the permitting process and fees.

Administration and enforcement. DEQ's Division of Land Protection and Revitalization administers and enforces the container requirements in Virginia.
