Comparison: State vs. Federal

Rules. Georgia has incorporated by reference the federal corrective action requirements for hazardous and solid (nonhazardous) waste units at treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs), as well as the rules, revised by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency in 2002, for CAMUs, TUs, and staging piles. The state's adoption of the 2002 CAMU rules includes the less stringent federal provision at 40 CFR 264.555 regarding placement of CAMU-eligible wastes in off-site hazardous waste landfills. See the national section CORRECTIVE ACTION to review the federal rules for CAMUs, TUs, and staging piles.

The state has incorporated risk-based corrective action procedures into its risk assessment procedures for certain sites, including USTs.

Administration and enforcement. DNR's Land Protection Branch administers and enforces all of the corrective action and RBCA requirements in Georgia.
