Rules. Mississippi adopts by reference the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements Rule, effective in Mississippi as of June 24, 2018. Mississippi follows the federal requirements for making hazardous waste determinations, including, but not limited to, the conditional exclusion from the definition of solid waste for cathode-ray tubes, the conditional exclusions from the definitions of solid and hazardous waste for solvent-contaminated wipes, the hazardous waste exclusion for carbon dioxide streams in geological sequestration activities, and the exclusion from the definition of solid waste for recycling of certain hazardous secondary materials.

Administration and enforcement. The Hazardous Waste Management Program at the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) administers and enforces the hazardous waste determination rules in Mississippi.
